The FireCatcher was developed by Paul Bartels after a wildfire destroyed the property he lived on, leaving him frustrated in not having something handy for his staff members to use in order to catch the fire while it was still small. He developed a prototype community fire-fighting cart after receiving a seed grant from the Tshwane University of Technology / Technology Innovation Agency. Paul is also the recipient of a 2017 Bank of Africa’s ‘African Entrepreneurship Award’ for entrepreneurship.
The FireCatcher fire-fighting cart user communities:
- Commercial and private farmers (crop farms; livestock & wildlife ranchers) and
- Small-scale farmers;
- Open land at the Urban-Wildland interface;
- Rural communities.
